Evaluación de híbridos F1 de chile (Capsicum annuum) provenientes de cruces entre parentales enfocados en obtener variedades tipo “Blocky o Bell Pepper”

The production of new varieties for agriculture is very important to be more profitable and productive, in addition to being able to adapt to climate change. For their part, blocky varieties are growing in consumer demand in Costa Rica. The objective of this research was to carry out the evaluation of F1 hybrids of C.annum focused on obtaining local seed of varieties such as "Bell Pepper or Blocky", yellow, red and orange; also elucidate some inheritance traits. Also evaluate commercial varieties and progenies obtained by self-pollination in commercial varieties. A field evaluation of the F1 hybrids was carried out with a Latin square experimental design, with 4 blocks and 4 repetitions per evaluated progeny, coming from the initial crosses. To analyze the data, an ANOVA was performed with a confidence level of p <0.05%. In addition to the hybrids, the commercial varieties and their respective self-pollinations were evaluated. Regarding results, the variables of plant height, length and diameter of the fruit did not show significance, in the F1 hybrids (p <0.05), except for the variable average fruit weight, in which there were significant differences (p> 0.05), the above indicates uniformity of the hybrids and the use of pure lines as parents. In relation to the inheritance of the characters, it was observed 100% dominance of the red color in the shell and square shape in the fruit for the three hybrids according to Mendel's laws for uniformity.For the purposes of the research, the commercial varieties (Nathalie, Bell Pepper Red, Orange and Yellow) were also evaluated and self-pollinations were made in each one measuring the same variables as in the F1, this was done with the intention of seeing the inheritance of some characters and see if the seed of each commercial variety was a pure line or a hybrid. Among the most outstanding results, it is pointed out that the variety of chili type "lamuyo" Nathalie, Bell Pepper Red, Orange and Yellow are pure lines and not hybrids, since there was no segregation and what was obtained was identical to the commercial lines, on the other hand , Nathalie, being self-pollinated, was the variety that obtained the most fruits, in relation to all the varieties compared, which can be explained from the physiological point of view by the size of the fruits and the thickness of the peel in relation to the varieties of type Bell Pepper. Regarding the F1 and the production obtained, all obtained positive results according to the heterosis calculation method. The hybrid encoded as (T) x BA, produced 0.98 fruit units more than its parents with a percentage of heterosis of 32.03%, followed by the hybrid (T) x BR with a percentage of heterosis of 4% and finally the hybrid (T) x BN with a percentage of 3.74%. Finally, uniform hybrids were obtained in all variables except fruit weight. Red is dominant over yellow and orange. Por su parte las variedades blocky tienen un crecimiento en la demanda de consumidores en Costa Rica. El objetivo de ésta investigación fue realizar la evaluación de híbridos F1 de C.annum enfocados en obtener semilla local de variedades del tipo “Bell Pepper o Blocky”, de color amarillo, rojo y naranja; además dilucidar algunos rasgos de herencia. También evaluar las variedades comerciales y progenies obtenidas por autopolinización en las variedades comerciales. Se realizó una evaluación de campo de los híbridos F1 con un diseño experimental de cuadrado latino, con 4 bloques y 4 repeticiones por progenie evaluada, proveniente de los cruzamientos iniciales. Para analizar los datos se realizó un ANOVA con un nivel de confiabilidad de p<0.05%. Además de los híbridos se evaluaron las variedades comerciales y sus respectivas autopolinizaciones. En cuanto a resultados, las variables de altura de planta, longitud y diámetro de fruto no mostraron significancia, en los híbridos F1 (p<0.05), excepto la variable peso promedio de fruto, en la cual si hubo diferencias significativas (p>0.05), lo anterior indica uniformidad de los híbridos y el uso de líneas puras como parentales. En relación con la herencia de los caracteres, se observó 100% de dominancia del color rojo en la cáscara y forma cuadrada en el fruto para los tres híbridos según las leyes de Mendel para uniformidad. Para efectos de la investigación se evaluaron, además, las variedades comerciales (Nathalie, Bell Pepper Rojo, Naranja y Amarillo) y se hicieron autopolinizaciones en cada una midiendo las mismas variables que en los F1, esto se realizó con la intención de ver la herencia de algunos caracteres y ver si la semilla de cada variedad comercial era una línea pura o un híbrido. Entre los resultados más sobresalientes se señala que la variedad de chile tipo “lamuyo” Nathalie, Bell Pepper Rojo, Naranja y Amarillo son líneas puras y no híbridos, puesto que no hubo segregación y lo obtenido fue idéntico a las líneas comerciales, por otra parte, el Nathalie, al ser autopolinizado fue la variedad que más obtuvo frutos, en relación con todas las variedades comparadas, lo cual se puede explicar desde el punto de vista fisiológico por el tamaño de frutos y grosor de cáscara en relación con las variedades de tipo Bell Pepper. Con respecto a los F1 y la producción obtenida, todos obtuvieron resultados positivos según el método de cálculo de heterosis.  El hibrido codificado como (T) x BA, produjo 0.98 unidades de frutos más que sus padres con un porcentaje de heterosis de 32.03%, seguido por el híbrido (T) x BR con un porcentaje de heterosis del 4% y por último el híbrido (T) x BN con un porcentaje de 3.74%. Finalmente se obtuvieron híbridos uniformes en todas las variables excepto el peso de fruto. El color rojo es dominante sobre el amarillo y el naranja.
